ShakeOut 2021

The Third Thursday of October is International Shakeout Day, where millions of people across America and around the globe participate in Earthquake readiness drills to improve our response to these events and raise awareness of the potential for destructive Earthquakes. Right here in the Lowcountry, most of us are very familiar with earthquakes, as they are part of our history. On August 31st, 1886, Charleston, South Carolina suffered the worst earthquake in its history. Much of the city was leveled, and sixty people lost their lives. Damage from the quake was reported as far away as Central Ohio, and over 300 aftershocks continued to shake the region for the next thirty years.

While no one can predict when the next major one will be, you can prepare. We have shared a helpful guide from one of our Partners, Palomar, to help you be prepared for an earthquake.

Follow this guide to prepare your home or business for an Earthquake, and for important safety steps to take during and after an earthquake to avoid injury.

Of course, once the quake is over, you may have significant damage to your home or business. Most homeowners policies do not include coverage for earthquakes, which is why we strongly recommend everyone add a separate earthquake policy. The current insurance market suggests that getting earthquake coverage is getting harder and harder, with increases in the cost of coverage, deductibles, and stricter requirements from insurance companies. However, we feel that everyone needs and deserves protection from earthquakes, especially where we live, which is why we offer earthquake insurance from Palomar. We can provide you with comprehensive and affordable coverage for both your home and business. While other insurers may be pulling out of the market, or offering limited coverage at costly rates, an earthquake policy from Palomar provides you with with the quality coverage you need at market competitive rates.

To get a free, no-obligation quote started takes just a few minutes, and can provide you with piece of mind that you and your family are protected.
